Educational Initiatives
Assiniboine Community College (ACC) has a proud and extensive history of working with Indigenous communities and organizations throughout Manitoba. The college’s mission to transform lives and strengthen Manitoba through applied education and research is central to the work that they do and aligns nicely to Tundra and the Richardson Foundation’s commitment to invest in educational institutions and initiatives.
ACC plays an important role in helping to reduce the educational attainment and employment gaps that currently exist between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. Increasing pathways for Indigenous learners contributes to the success and prosperity of individuals, families, and communities while addressing labour market demands and Manitoba’s economic growth.
Tundra is proud to support ACC in its efforts to provide additional education opportunities for these college students.
Increasing Community Access & Participation in the Visual & Performing Arts
A significant number of Tundra employees live in the communities where we operate.
For many small towns, life in the winter is centered around the ice rink where families and friends gather for sports events and other group activities. Some of these local structures require much-needed maintenance work and improvements to reduce the environmental impact of their operations. Tundra contributes to the upkeep of these community pillars on a regular basis. In 2024, the Birtle & District Community Centre, McAuley Community Association, and the Maryfield Recreation Board all received funding, through the Richardson Foundation, which allowed for structural and safety improvements, the purchase of new equipment, and upgrades to outdated systems.
Throughout the year, many in the community also gather to partake in outdoor activities in places like the Reston Golf Course or the Gainsborough Swimming Pool. Tundra is proud to have provided support to both facilities.
Environmental Awareness
Tundra began its partnership with the Souris River Watershed District (SRWD) in 2007. Since then, more than 7,600 youth and adults have benefited from environmental educational programs made possible by Tundra's annual donation. The SRWD works directly with schools, daycares, and nursery schools within their district, many within Tundra’s operating areas.
United Way
- Tundra conducts an annual fundraising campaign for United Way, with each location (Winnipeg, Calgary, Estevan & Virden) participating in the campaign.
- Funds raised remain in the community supporting local programming and at-risk populations.
- Donations collected through the campaign are matched by the Richardson Foundation.
